Dinner plates, set of four

Four plates, sold as four because one plate is not a useful quantity and eight is a guess about your table. The body is vitrified stoneware fired to 1260 °C, which is the temperature at which the clay stops being absorbent, so a plate left with tomato sauce overnight does not stain. The speckle is iron in the clay body coming through the glaze, not a printed pattern, so no two plates are identical and none of them will wear off. The rim is rolled rather than cut, because a rim is where a plate chips and a rolled one has more material in it. Dishwasher safe on either rack, microwave safe, and safe under a grill for the thirty seconds it takes to melt cheese. They stack to 7 cm for four, which matters if your cupboard is 30 cm tall, as rented kitchens tend to be.
